School History
West Briar Middle School opened its doors in 2002 as part of Houston ISD’s commitment to serve the growing communities of west Houston, including Briarhills, Parkway Villages, and the surrounding neighborhoods. Built to relieve overcrowding at Revere Middle School, West Briar began with an inaugural enrollment of 1,179 students and quickly developed a reputation for strong academics, supportive relationships, and vibrant extracurricular opportunities.
From the start, West Briar has been a reflection of the diverse community it serves, welcoming students from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds. The campus offers a rich blend of programs, including advanced coursework, fine arts, competitive athletics, and student leadership opportunities. Over the years, the school has embraced innovation—adopting research-based instructional practices, strengthening safety and technology, and building lasting partnerships with families and the community.
Today, under the vision All In: Every Grizzly, Every Day in Every Way, West Briar Middle School remains dedicated to its mission of “Growing Every Grizzly Every Day.” With a focus on high-quality instruction, inclusivity, and preparing students for success in high school and beyond, West Briar continues to be a place where every student is known, supported, and challenged to achieve their full potential.
